The Maharashtra state government has set up and integrated an independent University of Health Sciences for the goal of safeguarding systematic and thorough instruction, teaching, training, and study in modern medicine and the Indian system of medicine in the state of Maharashtra, as well as having balanced growth in the medical sciences, as well as homogeneity in different courses in medical faculty in the state of Maharashtra, and to provide for matters connected in addition to that and making to develop.
The Maharashtra state government passed an order to establish the institution on June 3, 1998. On June 10, 1998, the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences was proclaimed open by the Maharashtra Governor after the State Legislature enacted the legislation. Under Section 6(3) of the Act, all colleges and institutes in Maharashtra that provide health science education have been affiliated with this new University.
In Maharashtra, the University was founded to guarantee adequate and systematic education, teaching, training, and research in contemporary medical and Indian systems of medicine. The Maharashtra government appointed a committee in 2000 to assess the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences' development and provide recommendations for altering its activities and responsibilities in light of the University's current problems.
Academics
In all fields of health sciences, MUHS provides undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including a Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS), PhD. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) are among the five-and-a-half-year undergraduate programmes offered by MUHS. In addition, degrees in dentistry and nursing are available.
Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degrees in a variety of fields, Master of Surgery (M.S.) degrees, Master of Science (M.Sc.) degrees, and other postgraduate certificates are also available.
Major achievements
MUHS is dedicated to making a difference in the education of our youth. We achieve this through quality teaching and experiential learning opportunities that are otherwise unavailable in the average curriculum. At MUHS, we know that your opinion matters and shapes who we are as a school.
1. MUHS has become a Digital University by implementing cashless transactions and various examination-related activities such as online theory examination monitoring through CCTV cameras, online examiner appointments, and online PG dissertation submission.
2. MoUs with national and international institutes/universities - Around 41 prestigious national and international institutes and universities have signed and completed the first memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with MUHS. 06 institutions have signed and completed Activity Specific Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with MUHS to organise academic collaboration.
3. Despite the COVID – 19 Pandemic, the University completed UG and PG examinations for all faculties.
4. Developed and implemented several skill enhancement certificates and fellowship programmes.
The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, located in the historic city of Nashik, is one of the premier medical institutes and is situated in the picturesque Western Ghats. Its mission is to provide a quality education through teaching, research, and service and prepare students for medicine, nursing, and public health careers.
